It’s Time to Get Excited About the 2024 Ford Explorer

Ford isn’t hiding the fact that the 2024 Explorer will have a new Active trim. It’s been spied without any camouflage running around town, with a new Active badge proudly displayed right on the liftgate. All that’s left now is to get it to a Ford dealer, so buyers can snatch it up.

What’s the New Trim All About?

Just like with the Escape, it looks like the Active will replace the XLT. When it was spotted driving around town, it was sporting the XLT’s 18-inch wheels. There’s still a lot to learn about this new trim level, but it look like it will have rear-wheel drive and have the same updated look as the rest of the lineup.

What About the Rest of the Explorer Lineup?

The new Active trim is not the only change for the 2024 Explorer. When it arrives at a Ford dealer, it will have a new, more chiseled exterior design. Most of the updates are in the front and rear ends, with the headlights moved further toward the corners and a larger grille sitting in between them. Around back the bumper now has more of a wishbone shape, and the fog lights have a bolder housing if you compare it to the 2023. Also, the taillights now stretch into the tailgate, and there’s a strip that connects the two taillights, and the rear bumper extends down to cover the exhaust tips.

There’s Still Lots of Power

The updates to the 2024 Ford Explorer are mostly a styling refresh, so the powertrains should remain the same. Expect to see the 2.3-liter turbo four-cylinder with 300 horsepower under the hood of the entry-level models, with the option for a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V-6 that generates 400 horsepower. The hybrid version of the Explorer should still make an appearance with the 3.3-liter hybrid V-6 that works with electric power to develop 318 horsepower. All Explorers will still come with the 10-speed automatic transmission, and use rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.

The Inside Has Updates Too

The outside of the Explorer is not the only place where there will be updates. Inside, it will still have its three rows of seats and room for up to seven people, but it will have a different look. Ford moved some things around on the dashboard to make room for a larger infotainment touchscreen, and there is now what looks to be a shelf to hold your smartphone. Now, while the Chinese version of the 2024 Explorer has a massive 27-inch display that stretches from the driver’s side all the way across to the passenger side and includes a digital driver information display, the U.S. version of the Explorer is not expected to have this.

The latest Explorer will also have lots of amenities and features to make every ride more comfortable. Expect to see power-adjustable front seats with memory settings, wireless charging, and a panoramic sunroof.
