Honda Bids Farewell to Europe’s Civic Type R

The Honda Civic Type R will end its time in Europe due to emissions regulations, but it’s going out with a bang, offering a limited-volume Ultimate Edition model.

The numbers are depleting, and things are going fast. The hottest Civic is nearly at an end in Europe and won’t return anytime soon. The Type R represents the fun and active drive that many tuners found in early models of this Honda, but it also has that excitement baked in from the factory. Honda will sell 40 versions of the Ultimate model, giving each one red exterior decals and several carbon-fiber trim pieces.

Regulations ruin everything

Unfortunately, some vehicle regulations, which are made to help protect the environment and make the air cleaner, can cause some cars to leave the market. That’s what’s happening with the European-spec Honda Civic Type R. The legislation that passed emissions regulations means the car will no longer meet them, which spells the end for this Honda. The 324-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder engine is too much for the regulations, leading to the end of an era. It’s not really that surprising; many performance-oriented cars will have to change or end to meet new emissions regulations in Europe.

What does the Ultimate Edition include?

You can easily recognize the Ultimate Edition of this car because of the red stripe that runs down the middle o the hood. This stripe is paired with red decals on the body sides that fade into the hashes. The black-painted roof contrasts with the Championship White paint, which is a classic Honda color and the only color offered for the 40 Ultimate Edition models. At the rear, there’s an exclusive carbon-fiber wing that’s used as the rear spoiler, giving this car a sporty look and feel.

Going inside, you’ll see the traditional Type R red carpet and excellent front seats, but Honda adds more ambient lighting and carbon-fiber trim. The carbon-fiber items include the center console panel and door-sill plaques. When you open the front doors, puddle lights provide the Type R logo on the ground. Each of these cars comes with a gift box with an individually numbered emblem.

These cars are expected to be priced at a premium compared to the normal Type R versions. The Ultimate Edition models will also have special car covers, floor mats, and a carbon key ring. These items finish off the mix of items that make for a fitting sendoff to the European version of the Honda Civic Type R.

The desire continues

Despite changes in Europe, the Type R is still available in the United States and should be for the foreseeable future. This high-performance hot hatch is fun and active on the road and raucous at the track. The exciting, turbocharged engine makes 315 horsepower, which is sent to the wheels through a six-speed manual transmission. The latest version has several upgrades, giving you a larger radiator, improved brake cooling, and increased rpms for the active exhaust system, which takes the car from 310 to 315 horsepower. This FWD car suppresses torque steer, which makes it easier to toss it around on the track.

The Type R as tamed-down looks with impressive performance

The previous version of the Honda Civic Type R was much more extreme than the current model, but that doesn’t mean the current version isn’t impressive on the road and track. The prominent rear wing and 19-inch wheels are present to make this car fun and active from every angle. This incredible car rockets to 60 mph in 4.9 seconds and finishes a quarter mile in 13.5 seconds at 106 MPH, making it a quick, fun, and decisive car to drive.

You can drive it every day

The Type R is a hot hatch in every sense of the term, but it also provides you with an interior that is easy to enjoy and makes sense when you’re ready to take it for a daily ride. The sporty look is incredible, but the cabin is also comfortable and filled with the latest tech and safety features to ensure you have a great ride wherever you need to go. This means you can take this Civic for a road trip and visit some fun tracks along the way.

Europe may have lost their Honda Civic Type R and are celebrating the end of an era with the Ultimate Edition model, but the American version is still available and easy to enjoy. Are you ready to drive the Type R and experience the pleasure of this amazing hot hatch?
