5 Reasons Why You’ll Want a Dodge Hornet

The Dodge Hornet might hit your local Dodge dealership this spring, but should you get one? Despite using an old nameplate, the Dodge Hornet is all-new for 2023. Let’s take a look at some reasons why you might want to buy the Dodge Hornet when it goes on sale this spring.

What is the Dodge Hornet?

The Hornet is a subcompact SUV that is also the first Dodge vehicle with a plug-in hybrid powertrain. It shares its platform with the Alfa Romeo Tonale.

Two Engine Choices

Many small SUVs like the Hornet only have limited options, and sometimes this is also limited to only one engine choice. The Hornet, however, offers two engine choices. The first is a turbocharged four-cylinder, and the second is a turbocharged four-cylinder combined with an electric motor and battery pack. The plug-in hybrid powertrain offers a big upgrade in
performance compared to the base powertrain. The Hornet is expected to be a performance-oriented sporty SUV to take on challengers like the VW Taos and Ford Bronco Sport.

Standard AWD for the New Dodge Hornet

Small SUVs tend to be a lot more car-like, and that’s why AWD isn’t always standard on these models. The Dodge Hornet will feature standard AWD in both powertrain configurations. You can expect the PHEV model to deliver 288 horsepower and a zero to 60 time of 6.1 seconds. The base model is no slouch either, delivering 268 horsepower on Premium gas and a zero to
60 time of 6.2 seconds. The Hornet’s performance should match its sporty appearance and make a place for itself in the Dodge SUV lineup.

Fun Standout Exterior

It’s no secret that many of today’s compact crossovers look roughly the same, with very few of them standing out in any meaningful way. From the side, the Hornet doesn’t appear particularly unique either, but the rear and front of the SUV feature some different style elements that help it stand out. In the front, slim headlights and large airflow areas give the Hornet a striking look. In the rear, slim taillights and an exaggerated slope help the Hornet stand out.

Four Well-Stocked Trims

The Dodge Hornet will come in four trims: the base GT, the GT Plus, R/T, and R/T Plus. The R/T and R/T Plus trims are the PHEV trims, while the GT trims only feature the gas engine. For those looking at the most affordable models, you won’t be disappointed with the GT trim. It comes with several desirable features, including 17-inch aluminum wheels, smartphone
connectivity, dual-zone automatic climate control, and rain-sensing wipers.

Packed With Safety Features

The all-new Hornet is packed with standard driver assistance and safety features like automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, plus blind-spot monitoring and parking sensors. If the standard features aren’t enough, you can also add adaptive cruise control with a lane-centering feature.
