If you found yourself excited by the Santa Fe’s 2021 refresh available at your local Hyundai dealer, you won’t believe what’s coming next. The recent refresh brought us things like a stylish new grille, new powertrains, and updated safety technology. For most drivers, this update was more than enough to run out and grab a new Santa Fe.
Hyundai dealers around the country caught wind of the new Hyundai Santa Fe Plug-In Hybrid coming for 2022, and things have never been the same. Here’s what you can expect:
The Powertrain You’ve Been Waiting For
All Santa Fe plug-in hybrid SUVs are powered by a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine paired with an electric motor. The gas portion of the engine produces 177 horsepower, and the electric motor adds another 90 hp to the mix. That means you get a solid 267 hp sent to all four wheels.
This amazing powertrain gives you 30 miles of range on the electric motor. After that, you’ll experience an outstanding EPA-estimated 76 mpg. If the 12.4-kWh battery is completely depleted, you’ll still get 33 mpg combined. The fuel savings alone will pay for this updated powertrain.
A Duo of Trims
The brand new plug-in hybrid powertrain comes on two of the Santa Fe’s trims: SEL and Limited. The SEL trim will start at around $40,535. It comes with elements like Hyundai’s Smart Sense safety suite, the refreshed digital key, an eight-inch infotainment screen, and a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster.
If you decide to upgrade to the limited, it will cost you another $6,000. On top of all of the features that come with the SEL model, you also get things like a 10.3-inch infotainment screen, the Smart Park system, ventilated leather seats, and a 360-degree camera.
Updated Safety Features
One of the greatest perks of the newest Santa Fe is the massive number of safety features that come built-in. These systems take on the heavy lifting of helping you avoid an accident. While you still have to keep your eyes on the road, the Smart Sense suite gives you more confidence than ever.
Here’s what comes with this suite of safety systems:
- Highway driving assist
- Lane keeping assist
- Blind-spot view monitor
- Surround view monitor
- Driver attention warning
- Safe exit assist
- Rear occupant alert
- Forward collision avoidance with pedestrian detection
- Lane following assist
- High beam assist
- Smart cruise control with stop/go assist
- Parking collision avoidance assist
- And more
