You can tell those who either currently are or have been high performing athletes. They tend to walk taller, be more decisive and have the type “A” personalities that you would associate with being someone who was required to perform on the field of competition, no matter what that field was. These athletes also know what it means to have a great team around them to help them reach the goals they need to get to and how much this team supports their achievements of success that started as a long journey together.
In the small crossover SUV world there is one athlete among the pack of popular favorites. This athlete is the Volkswagen Tiguan which is one of the smallest in the class, but it’s also one of the most capable and will give you the ability to have an amazing ride in a vehicle that gives you more space than a sedan. This athletic performance comes in a package that offers you the engagement on the road you need as the Tiguan does a great job representing its team, the Volkswagen team, along the way so that it can be considered a fantastic way for you to have the drive you want.
What would make you choose the Tiguan? If you’re enamored by the Volkswagen GTI or other form of the Golf but want more space this is the vehicle for you. The performance on the road is nearly identical and you get to enjoy the benefit of the SUV size and can have the 4Motion AWD as part of the package as well. For 2017 the Tiguan received a lineup change. The R-Line and SE trims are going and are replaced by the Wolfsburg and Sport trims. The Base S model now has a 6.3-inch infotainment system and there is expected to be a larger size that can fit three rows by the end of 2017.
When you choose the Tiguan you only have one powertrain that you can use, but it’s one that can really get the job done for you. This powertrain uses a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine that produces 200 horsepower and 207 lb.-ft. of torque. This active power is attached to a six-speed automatic transmission that is put out as a FWD model in its standard form. This transmission does have a manual shift model and a sport mode to allow you to enjoy the active ride the way you want. The towing capacity of this SUV is 2,200 pounds and the fuel mileage comes to you at 20 city/24 hwy mpg. You can have this SUV with AWD to make it out on the trails in your area for some fun exploring.
There are four trims to choose from on the Tiguan; S, Wolfsburg, Sport and SEL. At the S model you have keyless entry, push button starting, the V-Tex faux leather upholstery, heated front seats, a rearview camera, the infotainment screen, HD Radio, USB ports and an SD card reader. The Wolfsburg moves up the comfort with a panoramic moonroof, 17-inch alloy wheels, power front seats, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Looking to upgrade the Tiguan? You can by selecting the 4Motion AWD and moving up to the Sport model which add leather upholstery, a sport suspension, bi-xenon headlights, LED daytime running lights, a driver’s seat memory position, a navigation system, and dual zone climate controls. At the top of the lineup the SEL model ass a premium audio system, power folding side mirrors and 19-inch wheels to give you the complete package in a small SUV.
