Ram 2500 and 3500: Big Muscle to Get the Work Done

For most jobs the half ton truck is all you need, but when the job gets larger, such as moving a mountain  or creating a canyon the right vehicle for the job is the three-quarter ton and full ton pickups of the Ram 2500 and 3500.  This truck is large and powerful while being one that will get the job done in the way you need it to.  Whether you simply need more payload and towing to move a river from one state to another, or you wat the big power that lets you pull a larger boat, the Ram 2500 and 3500 make great choices that can tow up to 31,210 pounds.

When you talk big trucks the first thing you should discuss ins the massive power that comes with the brute.  This pair starts out at the Ram 2500 with a 5.7-liter V8 engine that shows up with 383 horsepower and 400 lb.-ft. of torque.  This engine gets attached to a six-speed automatic transmission as do most of the trucks in this group.  This truck is a great choice when you need more power but still need to have a somewhat reasonable amount of fuel mileage to be enjoyed.

Next up is the 6.4-liter V8 engine which can be found on both the 2500 and 3500.  This engine gives you strong power of 410 horsepower and 429 lb.-ft. of torque.  This is an excellent version to give you some additional power from a larger engine.  At the top of the power line Ram gives us a massive 6.7-liter turbocharged diesel inline six-cylinder engine that can be put on either of the two models.  This engine can be mated to a six-speed manual or automatic transmission.  For the manual the power is 350 horsepower and 660 lb.-ft. of torque, for the automatic it is 370 horsepower and 800 lb.-ft. of torque and the 3500 will enjoy the height of power at 385 horsepower and 900 lb.-ft. of torque to give you that towing power you really want.

Buying a larger truck is certainly a commitment to the power needed to get more done.  The base price of the Ram 2500 comes in at $32,700 with an addition of $500 to move up to the 3500 model.  The SLT trim adds the Mega Cab and asks for a price of $42,000 but if you want to keep adding options to the truck you will reach up past $60,000 quickly for a loaded Laramie Longhorn model that will give you everything you need.

For these prices you want more than just a pickup truck that gets the work done, you want one that will also make it easier for you to enjoy the ride.  The standard features you will enjoy on a Ram 2500 or 3500 include a 40/20/40 split front  bench seat with rear storage, air conditioning, vinyl flooring, cruise control, a driver information center, automatic on/off headlights, a tilt steering wheel, a six-speaker audio system with a USB port and Bluetooth connectivity.  The safety features include six airbags and a full menu of electronic stability aids.

When you look to the options for these trucks, the first place you look is the fact that there are multiple bed and cab configurations you can take full advantage of.  Others to note include touchscreen navigation, a conversational voice recognition system, a ten-speaker premium sound system from Alpine, backup sonar proximity sensors, power folding trailer tow mirrors, a rearview camera, and an integrated trailer brake that is actually standard for the SLT, Outdoorsman, Laramie and Power Wagon models  to make it much easier for you to enjoy pulling whatever it is you need to take along with you.

When you get inside this heavy duty pair of trucks what do you see?  You will be pleasantly greeted by the comfort and upgraded look of the interior even on the basic truck.  Even with the cloth seats and some plastic features you will see some metal trim and upgraded technology that gives you a truck which is enjoyable and attractive.  When you have worked hard all day and your truck has done so as well you want to be able to enjoy a comfortable ride on the way home to have a relaxed experience.

Looking to the outside the 2500 and 3500 Ram trucks are anything but elegant.  These are massive monsters of the workforce that need to be able to do the work that you require.  The three cabs you can choose are Regular, Crew and Mega along with the different bed lengths that come in 6 feet 4 inches and 8 feet.  These trucks also come with either two or four wheel drive to give you the maximum capacity and size to have the truck you really want that will get the job done and bring the whole crew to the jobsite.

Even though when you own a truck you want to be able to brag on it and the power under the hood, this pair of beasts are meant for more real world capability than bragging.  You want tough  and durable and these two are just that.  For 2016 the new features include the Cummins turbodiesel engine and a new switchable rear cameral.  The front part assist and new center console design with Bluetooth has been added to give you a more connected ride no matter where this beast takes you.

When driving a large truck you have to expect the fact it’s going to feel like you are driving a truck and not a sedan.  These big power players offer you the towing capacity you want with the 5.7-liter engine giving the power to tow 13,900 pounds, the 6.4-liter can tow 16,320 pounds and the top end Cummins turbodiesel will haul as much as 31,210 pounds.  If you know you need the power to really get the job done, the Ram heavy duty pickups are the right choice to help you move whatever building or mountain you have to get from one place to another.
