Bugatti Bolide: Pure Hypercar Thrill

The Bugatti Bolide is one of the most incredible hypercars ever made. This track monster readily takes on the competition and strikes it down.

This incredible car looks like it came straight out of a video game and into our world. The Bolide is a radical creation built on the Chiron platform with as much creativity and freedom as any automaker can give to a car. The radical nature of this car brings a car based purely on technology and performance to the mix. Let’s take a look at what makes this thrilling car an absolute joy on any track.

Extreme power makes this car extremely fast

The most powerful version of the W16 engine makes its way to the engine bay of the Bolide. This means the same 8.0-liter W16 engine found in the Chiron powers this track-only racing machine. The retooling and engineering allow this car to deliver 1,825 horsepower and 1,365 lb-ft of torque. To reach these peak power levels, the Bolide must be fueled by 110-octane racing gas. This powerful monster bests the Chiron by more than 300 horsepower, which is an incredible feat in its own right.

Weight is always a hypercar factor

Big power and lightweight are the formula for racing success. The Bugatti Bolide is extremely light. Most of the weight is in the engine, with the massive W16 powering the drive. The total weight of this car seems basically unheard of, but using carbon fiber and ultra-light aerospace titanium alloy, Bugatti was able to keep the weight extremely low. Some items are 3D printed, which helps make them even lighter. The wheels are made of forged magnesium, another lightweight material. Overall, the Bolide weighs 2,734 pounds, which is 1,665 pounds lighter than the Chiron.

Extreme acceleration makes this car right

This incredible new Bugatti accelerates quickly. With the low weight and insane power, this sounds like an obvious thing to say, but the figures are truly astounding. The Bolide hits 60 mph in less than 2.17 seconds, which makes this one of the quickest cars in the entire world. If the accelerator continues to rocket this car down the track, it will reach 124 mph in 4.36 seconds, which is a lot faster than most performance cars in the market.

Will theory ever become reality?

Bugatti hasn’t taken the Bolide to the top test tracks in the world for testing yet. Still, the theory suggests that this incredible hypercar can finish a lap of Le Mans in 3:07.1 minutes and complete the Nürburgring loop in 5:23.1 minutes. The Nürburgring time would put this hypercar behind only the Porsche 919 Evo LMP1. Still, these times are only theoretical right now, which makes us wonder if Bugatti will ever put this car through its paces and see what it can do on these test tracks.

Its an LMP1 car in disguise

The Bolide looks like a Chiron in racing garb but has the dimensions of an LMP1 race car. That makes it much lower than the Chiron and as tall as the Bugatti Type 35 race car. This new Bugatti also has racing slick tires from Michelin that give this car a wide track and grip on the track that allow it to handle the 2.8g of lateral force that could be put on this car during a turn.

The most downforce of any Bugatti ever built

Bugatti has been building racing cars for more than 100 years. This means many cars have hit the tracks, making it a seriously impressive statement to say the Bugatti Bolide produces the most downforce ever. The massive aerodynamic wings on the front and back create extreme amounts of downforce that help this car stick to the track. This downforce is 1800 kg at the rear and as much as 800 kg at the front when the car is traveling 198 mph. Every element of the Bolide’s design is meant to channel air perfectly.

The Bolide is extremely limited

How many of these hypercars will Bugatti build? The answer is 40. That makes this car an extremely rare and select model that will go to only some of the most well-heeled car collectors in the world. Each model will cost more than $3.5 million and requires track access for owners to take delivery. All models should be delivered during 2024.

The Bugatti Bolide is made to set some serious records and be one of the most powerful cars in the entire world. This incredible machine is limited, fast, light, and ready to rocket around a track. It would be interesting to learn track times from Bugatti if they took this car to a legendary track for testing.
