Experience the Power and Excitement of the 2024 Genesis G70

Genesis understands the formula for success in the new 2024 G70 sports sedan. A new, more powerful engine base engine makes the G70 more exciting.

The new starting point for this Genesis sports sedan features an engine that hits the proverbial sweet spot. Most don’t expect to find 300 horsepower churning out of the base engine in any car, including sports sedans, but this new G70 hits that number with a small but impressive base engine. Let’s see what else this new Genesis sports sedan has for us to admire; this is the car that came out of the gate collecting awards while rocketing down the dragstrip.

Going bigger makes this car more exciting

The previous base engine under the hood of the G70 was a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine. For the 2024 model year, this engine grows to 2.5 liters of displacement, which increases power to 300 horsepower and 311 lb.-ft of torque. This power boost instantly makes the G70 more fun and active on any road or track. Along with a new engine, this Genesis sports sedan comes with a set of standard Brembo brakes and new available exterior colors, which are Vatna Gray and Kawah Blue.

This new base engine mates to an 8-speed automatic transmission and can be set up with either RWD or AWD to send power where you need it. The upgraded engine remains the same: a 3.3-liter turbocharged V6 engine that delivers 365 horsepower for even more fun.

Add the Sport package to the base Genesis G70

The perfect mate for a new sportier sedan is a Sport package that gives this car the right equipment to make it more fun. This package adds a limited-slip differential, summer tires, and Brembo brakes. When opting for this package, you’ll also enjoy a slight power boost, which matches the increased power of the V6 engine by adding three additional horsepower to the mix. While unconfirmed, the desire is this package will make its way to the US-spec G70 as well.

Pros and Cons of the new G70

Genesis is still a relatively new brand. Many drivers who hear the Genesis name still think of the Hyundai Genesis sports sedan and coupe and don’t realize this car name turned into the luxury brand from the Hyundai Group. That said, the G70 sports sedan comes with some pros and cons like any other car.

Pros

  • Excellent design with elegant lines
  • Attractive cabin
  • Impressive performance figures with either engine

Cons

  • Cramped rear seat
  • Storage bins seem unorganized
  • Many drivers still unfamiliar with the Genesis brand name

Impressive value from the G70

The new powertrain brings us more power and improved standard features, but you’ll still want to climb the trim ladder to the Sport Prestige trim to enjoy more of the high-end features offered than those found in lower trims. This model has a head-up display, a 360-degree camera system, Nappa leather upholstery, and a microfiber headliner. With the added comfort and tech features, this might be the best choice for most new G70 owners.

Is the new powertrain efficient enough?

The new 2.5-liter turbocharged powertrain is nearly as efficient as the previous system. This new model returns 21 city/29 hwy mpg when setup as an RWD car, while the AWD version delivers 20 city/28 hwy mpg. This is pretty good for a car that sends 300 horsepower to the wheels. The V6-powered models match the AWD 4-cylinder version, taking fuel mileage out of the choice of which powertrain to include in your Genesis G70 sports sedan.

This Genesis sedan makes room for your stuff

The new G70 is a compact sports luxury sedan with a small rear seat that’s a bit cramped for adults but opens up additional cargo room for your stuff. The trunk is large enough for five carry-on bags, and 14 of these bags fit when the rear seats are folded down. This car could be good for a road trip as long as it’s only you and one other person along for the ride.

Storage for smaller items is a bit odd, but you’ll get used to it. There’s a useful tray in front of the center console, which is good for smartphones, but the door pockets are small, and the center console bins are somewhat unorganized.

Why drive the new 2024 Genesis G70?

Why should you drive this new compact sports sedan? No matter which powertrain you choose, you’ll have more power and sportier performance features that make this Genesis car a lot more fun to drive and enjoy on the road. The Genesis G70 makes driving more enjoyable, reminding you of why you wanted to start driving in the first place.
