The performance model we admired before was the CTS-V, but the CT5-V isn’t the successor of this car, instead, it’s the successor of the tamer CTS V-Sport. Yes, the name Blackwing has been an engine name in the past, but for this new Cadillac, it’s the name of a trim. While we won’t have the Blackwing V8 engine under the hood of this new model, we will see the 6.2-liter supercharged V8 engine that will make nearly 650 horsepower to take its rightful place in the Cadillac lineup and make it nearly impossible for other luxury brands to keep up with what Cadillac has to offer.
The Clarity You need for the Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing
While the naming and trim hopping aren’t easy to follow, what is easy to figure out is the fact that this new car will be one of the hottest and most track-ready luxury sports sedans in the market. We will also see a new CT4-V Blackwing, which will be expected to use a turbocharged V6 engine. The goal for Cadillac is to have this CT5-V model be one that can take on the likes of the Mercedes-AMG division, the M-division of BMW, and the Audi RS models and win.
The Power of this New Model is Better than the Blackwing
The Blackwing engine, while an impressive power plant, is about 100 horsepower shy of what we will see in the CT5-V Blackwing. The Blackwing V8 is a 4.2-liter model that makes 550 horsepower, not quite the same as the 650 coming out of the supercharged 6.2-liter V8 that we’ll see in this new car. This new CT5-V model will be offered with either a ten-speed automatic or a six-speed manual transmission to give you the shifting you want when you take this car out for a drive.
