2016 Buick Envision: Late to the Party

Typically new models such as the Buick Envision are presented for sale starting in October of the previous year in the automotive industry, but that doesn’t seem to be the trend anymore. The old thought of buying a car in September because dealers needed room for new models the next month was part of being able to save some money on a new vehicle, but not anymore. Even though there is not set rule in place, the fact that the Envision has just recently made it to the market makes it a late comer, but this SUV just might be the life of the party for the summer months.

We knew the Envision was coming and it had to travel quite a ways to make it to our market. This is the first vehicle from one of the Big Three automakers in the US that’s built entirely in China. Because China has developed such an affinity for the Buick brand this was a natural occurrence, but one that took some time. Now that it’s here we can have a look at what this new SUV is that slots in right between the Encore and Enclave to make a trio of great SUVs from Buick.

The Envision is a high quality midsized crossover SUV that offers you a calm ride in a refined and roomy cabin that is easy to enjoy and afford. This SUV offers you the looks you expect from the newer version of Buick and brings in a sophistication that you won’t find on many other brands. While products that were made in China previously became the punchline of many jokes, the Envision is no laughing matter with the high quality and premium build that makes it the perfect addition to the Buick lineup here in the US.

For the power the Envision uses a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine that makes 252 horsepower and 260 lb.-ft. of torque. This engine is attached to a six-speed automatic transmission to give you smooth shifting and the power where you need it. As the first model in the US of this SUV comes set up with AWD as standard and gives you the fuel mileage of 20 city/26 hwy mpg. Unfortunately the towing capacity is only 1,500 pounds for the Envision, but that does give you enough weight to add some camping gear or a few kayaks to carry with you for an off road adventure.

The size and space of the Envision are perfect for the family on the go who don’t want a cumbersome vehicle or one that doesn’t give them enough space. This SUV is quick and agile on the road while still allowing for enough room for five to ride comfortably and carry along any gear needed for the desired trek. The materials and controls offered inside the Envision give you the feeling of quality and precision crafting to ensure you have a vehicle that everyone can enjoy riding in. Rear seat climate controls certainly help make the ride even better for those who have to ride in the back of the vehicle.

Currently the Envision is being offered as a limited run vehicle and comes to us with only two premium trim models. This means you will have an Envision that offers an eight-inch touchscreen display, a rear view camera, front and rear parking assistance, leather upholstery, power operated and heated front seats, a power liftgate, a heated steering wheel, tri-zone climate controls, a seven-speaker Bose premium audio system, Bluetooth connectivity, forward collision alerts, lane keeping assistance and departure warnings, blind spot monitoring and five years of OnStar services.

The Premium II brings in the HID headlights, a navigation system, ventilated front seats, automatic parking assistance and a head up display. The options for either model include a power moonroof, active front automatic emergency braking, a surround view camera, the 4G LTE connectivity with Wi-Fi access, adaptive cruise control and a trailer package.

When you consider the Premium mode that comes in with a price of $43,000 and the Premium II that only increases this price to $46,000 you find that this is an SUV that is a bargain in its class. Why not try something new from Buick; the Envision is ready for you; are you ready for it?
