The Mercedes Benz E-Class has been well received by drivers for its sportier, smaller design as compared to the full-size S-Class sedan lineup. Recent models of the E-Class close the gap between the E-Class and the flagship S-Class both in luxury and power.

While you’ll find many of these great models in the E-Class as well, it’s the E-Class’ ability to offer exceptional power that really allows it to stand out.

The S-Class barely tips into the category of a full-sized sedan as it’s slightly over the required 120 cubic feet of interior volume. The current S-Class measures 124.9 cubic feet of interior volume as compared to the E-Class’ interior volume of 111.1 cubic feet.
Along with being closer in size to the S-class, the E-class revs up its power and performance, making it a premium example of quality German engineering.
The S-Class 580 can reach 60 mph in 4.4 seconds but the E-Class 450 nearly meets that performance as it can reach the same speeds in 4.9 seconds. Unless you’re measuring with absolute accuracy, drivers simply can’t tell the difference-making power nearly identical.
The top-of-the-line E-class, the AMG E 63 is equipped with an impressive twin-turbo V8 that balances luxury performance and impressive power beautifully. This engine puts out an impressive 603 horsepower and 627 lb-ft of torque.
Meanwhile, the top-of-the-line S-class AMG S 63 delivers a whopping 791 horsepower and 1055 lb-ft of torque, thanks to its similarly suited twin turbo V8 engine. While the S-Class holds true to its impressive power, the E-class does a great job closing that gap, enabling drivers to get nearly the same level of power without the higher price point.

While the Mercedes-Benz S-Class will remain the automaker’s flagship luxury model offering the latest tech and innovation for a heightened experience behind the wheel, the E-Class has proven to be worthy of attention itself.
Select models of the E-Class, including the AMG E 63, offer power, space, and performance that’s slightly lower than the comparable S Class AMG S 63.
