Jeep offers its new hybrid powertrain in the Sahara, Rubicon, and High Altitude trims and plans to make it available in all models by 2025.
The 4xe delivers the legendary capability worthy of the Wrangler badge. Anything you can do in the gasoline-powered Jeep you can do in the Trail Rated 4xe, including fording up to 30 inches of water.
Like other hybrid vehicles, the 4xe uses regenerative braking to return power to the battery. You can also recharge this electric version of the Jeep Wrangler in a standard 120V outlet.

Of course, having a 375-horsepower engine cranking 470 pound-feet of torque makes for great off-road fun. But this power combination also delivers hustle when it’s time to merge onto the freeway, zipping from 0-60 in 6 seconds.
Choose from three drive modes to maximize fuel economy, range, and adventure.
- Electric Mode offers a range of up to 21 miles. It handles most commutes without using a drop of gas, and you can take advantage of its instant torque to scramble over trail debris. Then you can switch back to Hybrid or ESave mode for the drive home.
- ESave Mode saves battery power for later use. ESave prioritizes the 4xe’s 2.0L engine to keep the battery pack charged, so it’s at full bars when you need it.
- Hybrid Mode is the Wrangler 4xe’s default. As with other hybrid vehicles, this mode teams up the electric motor and 2.0L turbocharged engine to deliver quick acceleration while maximizing fuel efficiency.
This Wrangler Won’t Tie You Down
Hybrid battery technology has made incredible strides over the years. Not only is the batter pack smaller (in the Wrangler 4xe, it’s nestled under the rear seats), but they also go much farther. The electric Wrangler achieves a combined 49 MPGE and can travel up to 370 miles on a full charge and tank of gas.
And, as we mentioned above, you can charge a Jeep Wrangler 4xe using a standard 120V outlet (known as a Level I charging system), but you’ll need 12 hours to achieve a full charge.
