What Could a Chevrolet Trailblazer Mean for the Bowtie Brand?

Rumors are swirling around GM about the Chevrolet Trailblazer name. This name is attached to an SUV that we was offered until 2009 as a smaller version of the Blazer.

This SUV carried on in Asia, Australia, and South America until 2012 and it finally was put to rest after that year. With the recent resurgence of the new Chevrolet Blazer, there’s a chance that a new Trailblazer could be right behind it. This new model was launched during the Auto Shanghai show in April to give us the rumors of a move to bring this SUV to the US.

Looking Similar to the Larger Blazer

The new Chevrolet Trailblazer that was presented at the show last month shares many of the same features as the larger Blazer. This smaller model showed up with the same slim daytime running lights, a set of angular headlights, a split grill, and sharp lines on the sides. The model that crossed the stage was the Redline trim which rode in with 17-inch wheels to give us a look at a small SUV that can be the right choice for you to drive in the future.

What About the Chevy Trax?

Adding the Chevy Blazer to the lineup made perfect sense as a direct competitor to the Ford Edge and the Jeep Grand Cherokee which are also midsize SUVs that only seats five people. The smaller Trailblazer might not make as much sense. Does this new addition mean that Chevrolet is doubling down on the subcompact crossover SUVs that we can drive? Will the team discontinue the Trax which rides on the Gamma II platform? The new Chevy Trailblazer rides on the new modular VSS-S platform which is a step forward for the brand and can be the right build for you to have the drive you want.

Adding More Ruggedness to the Trailblazer

GM recently applied to register the name Chevrolet Trailblazer Activ with the US Patent and Trademark Office. The Activ name has been used in other models from the GM family to offer black cladding and beefier looks to the mix. An Activ model of the Trailblazer could be the right choice if this new SUV is set to replace the Trax in the lineup. We’re certainly going to expect the brand to give us an SUV that offers us the rugged good looks we want when it’s time for a great drive on and off the roads.

Not Much Known, but Possible

We don’t know whether or not the Chevrolet Trailblazer will replace the Chevy Trax or if it will arrive in the US at all. The new Blazer model is going to be the first to give us an idea of this new version of an old name is right for the drive. There seems to be a plan for a new GMC Envoy to also be added to the mix in order to give us another new choice in another GM brand. Hopefully, the Trailblazer will arrive and then we’ll get to see what happens with the Trax and the entire lineup.
