Exciting Speed without the Help

The way the supercars of today have been developed it almost seems necessary for them to carry some form of electrification into the mix when they look to set any kind of track speed records. The world of these cars has become so competitive that every automaker has been looking for that advantage over the others and most of them have found it in the addition of electric motors to make many supercars of today ones that come with a hybrid powertrain that’s assisted by one or more motors powered by electricity.

The fastest to make the lap around Nurburgring in recent years was the Porsche 918 Spyder which was assisted by four electric motors, one at each wheel to give it the speed desired. As others have attempted to best the Porsche at the most famous test track in the world, only one brand has chosen to stay away from the electrification that comes with the hybrid powertrains. That company is Lamborghini and they are one of the few that still offers us the style of power delivery that purists actually admire and continually desire to enjoy on the track and on the road.

Recently, the newest member of the Lamborghini family was developed and this new model makes its debut at the Geneva Motor Show for us to see what it offers and how amazing it can be. This new car is the Huracan Performante and it is a car that shows off the active aerodynamics you want and the speed that we admire. Until one video, this car has been heavily camouflaged in the teaser videos that have been released over the past few weeks, but there was one video that was offered that you have to see and have to witness to enjoy.

That new video is the one that shows the Huracan Performante has beaten the Porsche 918 around Nurburgring by nearly five full seconds. The Huracan performed the run around the tract in 6:52.01 while the Porsche was only able to achieve the same run in 6:57. What makes this even more exciting is the fact that the Huracan Performante is a car that keeps to the traditions of Lamborghini with an engine that doesn’t have any electrical assist technology at any of the wheels. This naturally aspirated V10 engine in the Huracan is said to have 630 horsepower, which seems low for a car that can make this run.

This isn’t the first Lamborghini to reach the lap time of less than seven minutes. The Aventador LP750-4 SV completed the lap in 6:59.73 but that car carried an engine that brought in 740 horsepower. The Huracan Performante is obviously much lighter and engineered much better in order to complete the task in this low time. This new record holder will now be challenged by others who think they can best the Lamborghini, but for now, and during the Geneva Motor Show, the Huracan Performante is the fastest car to ever turn the lap at The ‘Ring.
