2015 Ford Edge: Capable and Exceptional

With the amazing growth of the mid-sized SUV segment the competition is stiff and many of the vehicles that prowl this segment offer seating for up to seven and are built on a truck platform. The Ford Edge is quite a bit different by being a mid-sized SUV that keeps the seating down to five and is actually built on a sedan platform. This allows those who ride in the Ford Edge to enjoy some excellent space for themselves along with an amazing control structure from the sedan based build. Add to this comfortable ride a quieter interior and a redesigned interior look and the Ford Edge is more than capable of competing with the Nissan Murano, Toyota Venza and Jeep Grand Cherokee.

The Edge for 2015 is actually longer than in previous years, but even with this added length Ford chose not to add a cramped third row of seats. This choice does allow the SUV to continue to offer a great price and performance for shoppers to fully enjoy the drive in an Edge. As a completely redesigned model the Edge offer more interior room, new engine choices and a host of upgraded technology to fully enjoy.

When driving the Ford Edge owners have always been impressed with the balance between power, performance and efficiency to make the drive a joyful occasion. This SUV handles the road like a champ with a fully redesigned suspension that laughs at road imperfections and allows the SUV to be one that offers a smooth ride that can handle curves and twists and turns with ease. The steering helps compliment the suspension by being highly capable and easy to enjoy. Anyone who drives the Ford Edge will be able to have a lot of fun on and off the road in this dynamic and well-built SUV.

With a maximum towing capacity of 3,500 pounds and the sport mode for all engines that allows quicker acceleration the Edge has some interesting performance features to please just about any owner. Add to this the paddle shifters on the steering column which give the option of manually shifting the dynamic six-speed automatic transmission and the Edge makes for a great ride with all controls that a true driving enthusiast could want.

Three engines are available for the Edge to give owners the ability to have the power they are looking for, or the fuel efficiency they need. The base engine starts out as a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine that shows up with 245 horsepower and 270 lb.-ft. of torque. The mid-level engine is the carryover from before in the 3.5-liter V6 that has 285 horsepower and 253 lb.-ft. of torque to give a respectable and expected power dynamic. At the top of the list is an all-new 2.7-liter turbocharged V6 engine that is able to outperform the larger power plant in both power and fuel mileage.

Offering the two-row seating and not succumbing to a third-row platform the Edge packs a lot of interior space inside for both passengers and cargo. The legroom is larger on this version of the Edge than in previous models and the cargo capacity is a massive 39.2 cubic feet which expands to 73.4 cubic feet with the seats down. The controls are all easy to find and upgraded to offer some of the best technology on the market. Instead of using a touch screen system for the audio and climate controls the Edge has buttons and dials for these features, making them easier to use. The materials used are all very comfortable and enticing across all surfaces giving a very enjoyable and comfortable seating arrangement.

On the outside the Edge shows off a familiar look with a squat stance that helps add to the control of the SUV making it easy to maneuver along the road or trails. With a front fascia that is adorned with a trapezoidal grill and two shapely headlights that add some very enjoyable character to the front. Heading toward the back the Edge has a smooth transition from the hood to the roof and a less than boxy appearance but a large enough profile to give a ton of great interior room for owners to fully appreciate.

Standard equipment is spread across four trims: SE, SEL, Titanium and Sport. These features include keyless entry, a rearview camera, cloth seats, a six-way manual driver’s seat, a six-speaker audio system with USB input and Bluetooth connectivity and 18-inch wheels for the base SE trim. The SEL offers the addition of push button starting, a power driver’s seat, dual-zone climate control and satellite radio. Moving up to the Titanium trim brings in the Sony premium audio system, a hands free liftgate, leather upholstery, heated front seats and the Sync with MyFord Touch infotainment system. Finally, the Sport model starts out with the most powerful engine, perforated leather seating and some unique interior and exterior accents to show of the Sport side of the Edge.

The optional features aboard the Edge include all-wheel drive, a forward facing camera, blind spot monitoring, forward collision alerts, lane keeping warnings, inflatable rear seat belts, a parking assist system, adaptive steering, heated and ventilated seats, a heated steering wheel and a rear seat entertainment system. With any or all of these added features aboard the Edge owners will feel more secure knowing they have advanced safety features along with having the ability to entertain passengers in the back seat with the entertainment system.

A price that starts just under $29,000 makes the Edge SE a very affordable model for most shoppers and offers them a great deal of amazing features and equipment to take advantage of along the road. Moving up to the SEL the price starts at $32,400 and the Titanium model will enter the fray at $36,500. Heading to the top of the model structure the Sport comes in around $39,000 with the addition of all-wheel drive to any model will increase the base price by nearly $2,000. A fully loaded Edge Sport will be above the $50,000 mark which will be an Edge for everyone in the SUV to really appreciate.
