Bolt, Imagine the Life of a Race Part

You might think that cars are built with similar parts across a variety of makes and models, and you would be correct for the various mass produced models of the automotive names we’re familiar with, but when it comes to some parts they need to be cast and made one at a time. This is certainly the case when you think of the life of the parts on a race car that drives in specific racing series such as Formula One, but do the bolts really need to be custom made and produced as well?

As you can see from this video, each bolt, and every other part on the Red Bull team race cars are custom designed and made to be perfect for the use. These parts, and in the case of the video, bolts, are made for the exact purpose built and designed to be strong enough to last as long as they’re needed to be used in the car they’re installed in. The life of a race car bolt starts out as a single piece of cylindrical metal that needs to be shaped and honed in order to be right for the task at hand.

Does the bolt in the video belong in the engine, does it belong on the wheels, and is it for the transmission or is it meant to hold the body to the frame? That part of the equation escapes us during the video, but as you can see from the video the Red Bull team, and any other racing team that has an impressive sponsorship, is a large team of experts that are put together to build some of the best race cars and put on the events that will allow us to be entertained and impressed by the speed and athleticism of the Red Bull athletes and machines.

So what’s the point of looking at the life of a single race car bolt? The point is this bolt is made to withstand the heat, torture and pressure that bolts can go through. While a single car race is only a short distance with the longest races being 500 miles in length, these races are ran over the time of a few hours, making the intense pressure and work of every part of these cars that much more important during a race.

Each piece of a car must perform perfectly and be designed just right for the car so that the vehicle and the driver can perform in sync and be able to take the checkered flag. Not only does this video serve as a humorous way to follow the production of a single bolt and the precision that much go into making that bolt just right, but it serves as a way you can see and admire how much work does go into making a race car. With each race team bringing their own custom produced cars to the track, they all must have the right team in place to make the equipment needed to get to the winner’s circle.
